The FORM watches by Junghans are a line of modern, minimal watches with an emphasis on geometry and legibility. Introduced in 2017, they are a contemporary counterpoint to Junghans’ other lines, eschewing soft vintage curves for sharp angles, Plexiglass for sapphire and domed dials for cleverly concave surfaces. With that said, the DNA of Junghans iconic watches are still very clear in the FORMs, giving them the distinct German-flavor that defines the brand.

Designed to be everyday watches, the FORMs have edge-to-edge dials with high contrast indexes and large numerals to maximize clarity. Yet, they are not lacking in subtle, artistic details. A close inspection will reveal understated highlight colors, blind debossed indexes, a beveled date window and an ever-so-slight bowl shape to the dial. This all stands in slight contrast from the conical case with its bold architectural lines and strong facets.

The FORM A is a three-hand automatic with an ideal 39mm diameter case. Ticking within is the J800.2 / ETA 2824-1 movement, a Swiss-made automatic workhorse movement. This caliber features 25-jewels, 38-hour power reserve, date and hacking seconds (the second hand stops when the crown is pulled out).

About Junghans

Since 1861, the town of Schramberg, Germany, nestled sleepily in the Black Forest, has been home to one of the greatest names in German watchmaking: Junghans. For over a century and a half, the brand has produced a stunning array of watches and clocks for almost every conceivable application, from egg timers to cockpit clocks for Bf-109 fighter aircraft, but today their collection is comprised mostly of a few lines of clean, design-oriented timepieces.

Junghans’ style trends toward sleek minimalism, with a healthy dose of mid-century style to keep things unique and interesting. This shines through especially well in their Meister Pilot series, with a one of a kind scalloped rotating bezel based on the pilot’s chronographs Junghans supplied to the newly reforming German air force, in the 1950s. The real star of the show for Junghans, however, is the Max Bill series, named after the eponymous Bauhaus designer.
