The Bulova Archive Series reimagines iconic models from the brand’s history to celebrate its most memorable moments and accomplishments. On August 2, 1971, a Bulova chronograph that had been customized for space exploration by the brand’s engineers was worn on the surface of the moon during the Apollo 15 mission. The Bulova Lunar Pilot Chronograph reimagines that historic timepiece with updated materials and an advanced high-performance quartz movement.

The 45mm case features a lug width of 20mm, and it includes a solid steel case-back and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal for maximum durability. While the classic configuration for the Lunar Pilot Chronograph includes a stainless steel case fitted with a high-contrast black dial, Bulova also makes a limited edition version that celebrates the 50th anniversary of Apollo 15, and that model features a grade 5 titanium case paired with a gray dial and gold colored accents. Surrounding the dial on all of the Lunar Pilot models is a raised tachymeter scale, which works in conjunction with the centrally-mounted chronograph seconds hand to allow users to measure both speed and distance.

Internally, the Bulova Lunar Pilot Chronograph is powered by an advanced 262 kHz high performance quartz caliber, which features a 3-pronged quartz crystal and has a frequency that is 8 times greater than a standard quartz watch movement. In addition to allowing the Lunar Pilot Chronograph to measure times down to 1/10 of a second, the 262 kHz caliber also benefits from incredible timekeeping accuracy of just seconds per year.

About Bulova

Founded in 1875, Bulova is an American watch company based in New York City that was one of the most prominent brands in the industry throughout most of the 20th century. A true household name, Bulova is credited with numerous contributions to watchmaking, including creating the world’s first fully-electronic wristwatch using the brand’s proprietary tuning-fork based technology. Bulova timepieces have been issued to members of the United States Military, used on 46 different NASA missions, and even worn by astronauts on the surface of the Moon. Since 2008, Bulova has been owned by Citizen Watch Co. and the company continues to operate out of its New York City headquarters, producing high-quality timepieces that honor the brand’s remarkable and diverse history.
