G-SHOCK’s MT-G series of watches is one of their most advanced lineups yet. Making use of their newest technologies, these watches combine the Carbon Core Guard and the Metal Core Guard to create what they call a “Dual Core Guard structure”. The steel case combined with the internal carbon shock-resistant structure results in a super tough watch that makes the MT-Gs more durable than ever. Since the MT-G is predominantly steel, it allows for a higher degree of finishing and use of textures that really makes it stand out compared to its resin counterparts. Despite the futuristic aesthetic, the MT-Gs feature an entirely analog face, even though they run on a solar-powered digital module inside.

On the wrist, the 51mm wide by 15.9mm thick MT-G has some serious presence. The metal case features four pushers and an aggressively textured crown. Around the outside of the analog dial, you’ll notice the 12-sided angular bezel that’s been treated with a special ion plating that gives it a brilliant finish. The dial itself is bold and legible, featuring large pointed hands that are filled with Neobrite luminous material so you can read the watch in all conditions.

While a lot of G-SHOCKs feature fixed straps, those on the MT-G series can be quickly changed out thanks to the quick-release spring bar system built into the included strap or bracelet. The MTGB2000B1A2 ships on a premium rubber strap with a ridged texture, while the MTGB2000D-1A comes on a unique hollowed-out bracelet. G-SHOCK has found a way to use metal injection molding to create a hybrid steel/composite bracelet that reduces the weight by 15% compared to all-steel for a comfortable and lightweight wearing experience.

Inside the MT-G, you’ll find a Bluetooth-enabled 5636 module that displays the time on a standard three-hand display. A mode sub-dial at three o’clock displays the current mode, which includes calendar, stopwatch, timer, and alarm features. You’ll also notice a 24-hour indicator and a multi-function dial at 8 o’clock that changes depending on what mode you’re in. The module charges up via solar power and will run for up to five months in between charges. You can also connect the watch to your phone via the G-SHOCK app for precision time setting, or stay accurate with multi-band radio atomic timekeeping.

About G-Shock

G-SHOCK was born from a simple idea — a watch should not break when dropped. Back in 1983, the original square-shaped DW-5000C was created after Kikuo Ibe witnessed a child bouncing a rubber ball. It struck him that a watch floating within a rubber case would be impervious to shocks. After a bunch of testing and design with toughness in mind, the brand was born. Nearly 35 years and hundreds of models later, G-SHOCK is still best known for being some of the toughest, hard-wearing watches that money can buy.
