Seiko’s Save The Ocean series reimagines some of the brand’s most famous dive watch designs to create special edition timepieces that help raise awareness and generate funds to support a variety of different marine conservation efforts around the world. First launched in 2018, the collection is updated annually, and the latest additions to the series take three of the brand’s most iconic divers of all time and use their classic case silhouettes to serve as the foundation for striking ice-themed renditions that draw their aesthetic inspiration from the Arctic waters and glacial structures experienced by ice divers and polar explorers.

The Seiko SPB297 takes the 40.5mm wide by 13.2mm thick case of the 62MAS revival model and fits it with a black bezel insert and a dark blue ice-textured dial, while the Seiko SPB299 is the version that uses the vintage reference 6159 “Hi-Beat” diver as the basis for its inspiration and fits the 42mm wide by 12.5mm thick case with a glossy dark blue bezel and an ice blue textured dial. The third model from this year’s trio is the Seiko SPB301, which takes the 42.7mm wide by 13.2mm thick case of the vintage “Captain Willard” reference 6105 re-edition and gives it a bright blue bezel insert paired with an icy white textured dial. Despite their differences, all three of these Seiko Prospex Save The Ocean watches feature cases that are crafted from stainless steel, scratch-resistant sapphire crystals protecting their dials, and screw-down winding crowns with solid casebacks to help provide them with an ISO-certified 200 meters of water resistance.

About Seiko

Founded in 1881, Seiko began as a humble jewelry and clock store and has since grown into the watchmaking juggernaut that it is today. If the technology for a watch they wanted to make didn’t exist, Seiko made it happen under their own roof. Since Seiko is vertically integrated, they can customize nearly any part of their watches to their own design and specs in house. From the first true dive watch, to one of the first automatic chronographs, and completely new ways of powering a watch like Spring Drive, Seiko’s list of horological achievements is lengthy. They’ve done everything all the way down to creating their own lab-grown and regulated quartz crystals for timekeeping.
