In 2023, Louis Erard teamed up with Amr Sindi, to launch a series of watches inspired by the Art Deco period. No stranger to the industry, Amr has been deeply immersed in watch collecting and marketing for years, though to the public, he is best known for his popular instagram account, @TheHorophile. With Louis Erard’s supremely elegant Excellence Petite Seconde 39mm model as a canvas, the Swiss maison and Amr came together to create a new sub-line called Metropolis.

With a focus on texture and typography, the Metropolis achieves its goal of embodying the Art Deco aesthetic, yet with a refreshingly modern flair and eye for restraint. At the center of the logo-free dial is an array of deep centric grooves that encases a sub-seconds dial at six. Stripped down to it essence, the sub-dial has but two outlines and a single index mark at 60. Enclosing the dial is an hour index utilizing a uniquely architectural typeface that despite its fine lines remains highly legible. Echoing the radial design are printed lines adding a graphic cleanliness. Completing the design, the hands feature a stepped design inspired by the Empire State Building, an Art Deco icon.

For 2024, Louis Erard and The Horophile have launched a new color of the Metropolis, a deep, verdant green. Somewhere between emerald and fresh grass, it’s a color with undeniable vitality. All dial print is clean white, which properly contrasts and complements the green beneath. Polished silver hands reflect the sculptural lines of the case, tying the two together. A grained leather strap in taupe adds a subtle contrast to the strong green of the dial.

Powering the Metropolis is the Sellita SW261-1 Swiss-made caliber. An automatic movement, it features 31-jewels, hacking, hand winding, small seconds, a frequency of 28,000 beats per hour, and a power reserve of at least 38 hours. The movements in use are true no-date.
