To kick off the celebration of its 40th anniversary, G-SHOCK has created two new Flare Red models that feature striking colorways consisting of orange, red and black, with unique multicolor luminous carbon bezels that are inspired by the explosions on the sun’s surface. Based upon the popular Land Mudmaster and MTGB3000 series, the two new G-SHOCK 40th Anniversary Flare Red models are both produced as limited editions, and both versions offer the same industry-leading shock resistance and 200-meter depth ratings that define all modern G-SHOCK watches.

The G-SHOCK Flare Red GWG2040FR-1A uses the popular Land Mudmaster for its foundation, and it features a durable carbon and resin case that measures 54.4mm wide by 61.2mm lug-to-lug, with an overall thickness of 16.1mm. Offering a hybrid analog/digital display, the G-SHOCK GWG2040FR-1A is powered by the brand’s Module No. 5678, which includes all of the usual features, such as a stopwatch, alarm, countdown timer, world time functionality, full auto-calendar, and an LED backlight, plus a multi-function sensor that operates as an altimeter, barometer, thermometer, and digital compass.

Meanwhile, the G-SHOCK MTGB3000FR1A is the 40th Anniversary Flare Red model that is based upon the MTGB3000 series, and it features a carbon and stainless steel ase that measures 50.9mm wide by 51.9mm lug-to-lug, with an overall thickness of just 13.2mm. Powering the Flare Red MTGB3000FR1A is the brand’s advanced Module No. 5672, which offers a fully analog display, while still providing all of the same advanced digital features that you have come to expect from a G-SHOCK. With that in mind, rather than featuring a multi-function sensor like its Mudmaster sibling, the Flare Red MTGB3000FR1A offers Bluetooth connectivity for pairing to your smartphone via the G-SHOCK app.

Despite their differences, both limited-edition G-SHOCK 40th Anniversary Flare Red models feature the brand’s Carbon Core Guard structure, and they are also both fitted with glare-resistant sapphire crystals above their dials, along with pink gold IP accent components, Neobrite-coated hands, and flexible resin straps. Additionally, both models feature an Eric Haze-designed 40th Anniversary logo on their casebacks, and each one comes packaged in a special edition 40th anniversary box.

About G-shock

G-SHOCK was born from a simple idea — a watch should not break when dropped. Back in 1983, the original square-shaped DW-5000C was created after Kikuo Ibe witnessed a child bouncing a rubber ball. It struck him that a watch floating within a rubber case would be impervious to shocks. After a bunch of testing and design with toughness in mind, the brand was born. Nearly 35 years and hundreds of models later, G-SHOCK is still best known for being some of the toughest, hard-wearing watches that money can buy.
