G-SHOCK is best known for being the “tough” watch: rugged, dependable, and made to withstand any fall the wearer might experience. However, acquiring this title was no simple task for Kikuo Ibe and Project Team Tough. The goal was to create a watch that could operate up to 10 years, be water-resistant down to 10 bars, and run after a 10-meter fall. After two years and over two hundred prototypes, the G-SHOCK was born: modern G-SHOCK all derive a bit of their DNA from the original DW-5000C of 1983. Now, the G-SHOCK market is tougher than ever.

The G-SHOCK GBD200 is the latest sports watch in the MOVE lineup. At 45.9mm wide and 15mm thick, it’s among one of the smaller fully-featured sports watches to bear the G-SHOCK name. As with most G-SHOCK models, you can expect it to be shock and 200m water-resistant. The mineral front crystal covers a backlit LED panel with a “Super illuminator” light that can be turned on with the button at six o’clock. This particular model can be connected to a smart device through the MOVE app to track workout goals.

Among some of the GBD200’s features is Bluetooth to allow for GPS connectivity with smart devices, a step tracker, and calories burned counter. During training, the display outlines distance, speed, pace, and other various calculated values from the built-in accelerometer. Other features include Life Log Data (to be tracked with mobile app), a World time function with 38 time zones, a stopwatch, a countdown timer, four adjustable alarms with snooze and vibration alerts, and a power-saving mode. If you were looking for a tough sports watch, they don’t come tougher than G-SHOCK.

About G-Shock

G-SHOCK was born from a simple idea — a watch should not break when dropped. Back in 1983, the original square-shaped DW-5000C was created after Kikuo Ibe witnessed a child bouncing a rubber ball. It struck him that a watch floating within a rubber case would be impervious to shocks. After a bunch of testing and design with toughness in mind, the brand was born. Nearly 35 years and hundreds of models later, G-SHOCK is still best known for being some of the toughest, hard-wearing watches that money can buy.
