In 1971 Coca-Cola ran their famous “Hilltop” advertising campaign featuring the iconic refrain “I’d like to buy the world a Coke,” a slogan and rally cry for peace and harmony. Now, 50 years later Timex has teamed up with the beverage brand to create a series of watches commemorating the commercial and its hippie-inspired vibe. Adorned with bright colors, rainbows, and Coca-Cola branding, the Timex 1971 Unity Collection combines vintage-inspired watches with some light-hearted psychedelia. For the Windup Watch Shop, we’ve brought in two flavors: the T80 digital, and Q Timex quartz.

At first glance, the Timex T80 x Coca-Cola might not appear too different from other versions of the retro-tastic digital timepiece with its all silver case and bracelet, but a straight-on view reveals more. The border surrounding the yellow-green display has a veritable explosion of colors that would feel right at home on Ringo’s wrist on the cover of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. A fun spin on an already nostalgic watch, it’s a bit like having a lava lamp on your wrist.

The Q Timex x Coca-Cola takes a subtle and tasteful approach to the theme. The date-free dial is a cool-cream-tone with bold dive-style markers outlined in a pop of color, while at the center of the dial in a bold font I can only describe as “the cat’s pajamas” is the word peace happily existing under a rainbow with which it shares a palette. An all-brushed steel bezel with a 12-hr bezel comes together with a matching case and bracelet to make this one of the cleanest Q executions we’ve come across.
