A Vintage Diver Returns - The Benrus Ultra-Deep Now In The Windup Watch Shop
Words by Windup Watch Shop

Out of the deep and into the Windup Watch Shop is a freshly re-introduced classic from Benrus watches. Originally released in the 1960s, the Ultra-Deep was one of their most popular watches of the time. With recreational diving really taking off, it’s no wonder that this super capable dive watch was as popular as it was. Let’s take a closer look at the Ultra-Deep from Benrus, which is available now in the shop.

Staying true to the original, the Ultra-Deep measures in at a wrist-friendly 36.5mm wide and 41.5mm lug-to-lug. The case is crafted from stainless steel and features a mix of brushed and polished finishes. The 13.8mm thickness includes a double domed acrylic crystal and has a unique internal magnifying lens that makes the date window easier to read at a glance. Since the Ultra-Deep is a true dive watch, you’ll find an internal rotating bezel that’s operated by the secondary crown on the right side of the case. The case is water resistant to 20 ATM or 666 feet, as printed on the dial just above the 6 o’clock index.

Inside the watch, a Swiss-made Soprod P024 caliber keeps time. It’s an automatic movement, powered by the motion of your wrist and has several handy features. You can hand wind the watch, hack the seconds hand for precise timing, and take advantage of the quick set date features. When fully wound, the Benrus Ultra-Deep will run for 38 hours between wearings while beating away at 28,800bph.

When you purchase the Benrus Ultra-Deep from the Windup Watch Shop, you’ll receive a complimentary ADPT strap in “Denim”. You can see the watch and strap in action from our Chicago Windup Watch Fair Diving Expedition video below! If you’ve been looking for a vintage styled piece that you can wear worry-free under the water, the Benrus Ultra-Deep is a handsome and compelling choice.
