Words by Windup Watch Shop

Yes, it’s that time again. When the summer slowly fades into fall and you’re desperately trying to regulate your sleep into somewhat of a “normal” schedule. “Back to School” is not all bad though. It’s an excellent opportunity to experience independence, learn a little something, and further yourself or your children as individuals. We wouldn’t be here talking about it if we didn’t think it was also an excellent opportunity to gear up with some new clocks, watches, and EDC accessories that’ll make your transition back to school a bit easier (and more fun) for you and your family. Let’s check our some of our favorite pieces of kit for getting back to school.

Timex Marlin Sub-Dial Automatic

Timex’s new Marlin Sub-Dial Automatic is a handsome and affordable way to track the time. At $279, the Timex represents a heck of a value that won’t totally break the bank. At 39mm, it’s an easy-wearing and classically-sized watch that has a lot to like. Inside, an automatic movement tracks the time while winding up via the motion of your wrist. The handsome brushed silver dial is adorned with a 24-hour sub-dial at 3 o’clock that’ll come in handy during those all-nighter study sessions where you’re not sure if it’s 9pm or 9am. It ships on a handsome brown leather strap, making it comfortable for all-day wear.

Seiko Modern Marathon Alarm Clock

Sure, your phone has a built-in alarm clock, but it’s not an uncommon occurrence to forget to pop it on the charger, especially if you’ve had a hectic day. Seiko’s Modern Marathon Alarm Clock is the perfect nightstand companion. It has a large and highly legible digital display and a retro-cool black and yellow case. You can choose from three different alarm sounds, with countdown timer, snooze, stopwatch, and calendar functionality. The Seiko Limited Edition Marathon Alarm clock conveniently runs on two AA batteries. There’s a lot more packed into this alarm clock than you’d think, making it a great option for the dorm, home, and everywhere you may travel in between.

Tactile Turn Titanium Bolt Action Pen

If you’re the kind of person to take notes on good old fashioned paper, and not an ipad or computer, then a good pen can be a great investment into actually looking forward to writing stuff down. Tactile Turn’s machined pens are made 100% in-house at their Dallas-based machine shop. The Bolt Action pen is crafted from titanium and features a rock-solid bolt action mechanism that’s just as fun to play with as it is functional. The Standard size accepts Pilot’s popular G2 refill, which writes an extremely smooth line with archival-quality ink. If you’re looking for a more custom writing experience, you can swap the ink out for any one of the dozens of compatible refills.

G-SHOCK GA2100

Having a multi-functional digital watch on your wrist can really help improve productivity. G-Shock’s GA2100 is built on a revolutionary slim Carbon Core Guard case that can withstand an incredible amount of force while still remaining functional. The analog hands tell the time, while a small dial points to the day of the week. An integrated screen opens up a world of features like world time (ideal for tracking the time at home when you’re away at school), stopwatch, countdown timer, and 5 daily programmable alarms. The GA2100 series is both fun and functional, perfect for casual wear.

Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical

Hamilton’s Khaki Field Mechanical is one of the best ways to get your hands on a quality and affordable Swiss-made watch. Sporting classic field watch looks, the Khaki is clean, legible, and full of character. The white-dialed version features cream-colored lume on the hour markers and hands, giving a little pop of vintage-inspired flair. The durable matt finish case will hide bumps and scratches you may pick up along the way. To power the watch, you’ll have to wind the crown. At full capacity, the watch will run for a class-leading 80 hours on a single wind.

Model 2 Premium Strap

Think of a new strap like you would that fresh new pair of shoes for the school year. If you’ve already got a favorite watch, then popping on a new strap can totally change up the look and feel of it, perfect for beginning a new chapter in your educational journey. We really love the Model 2 Premium straps for their tapered construction, premium leather, and painted edges. Polished hardware adds a pop of shine to the strap, coordinating with elements on nearly every watch case.
