Now Available at Windup Watch Shop: The Laco Frankfurt GMT
Words by Windup Watch Shop

Laco might be known for their precise recreations of traditional Flieger watches, but their catalog includes much more. One of their most recent additions, while still a pilot’s watch, is far from traditional, offering a modern, aggressive and exciting style. The Laco Frankfurt GMT is a dual-crown contemporary pilot’s watch with a rotating internal 24-hr bezel, tons of lume, a GMT caliber, and a bead-blasted steel case. We’re excited to be adding it to the Windup Watch Shop today, available right here.

Laco Frankfurt GMT

Coming in at 43mm, the Frankfurt GMT is a bold, rugged design with a lot of wrist presence. The German-made case is striking, with a dark, matte finish that makes it look almost like titanium. On the right side are two flat, screw-down onion-crowns that sit cleverly sunken into crown-guards, preventing them from snagging on clothing or digging into your wrist. Popping out the top crown will allow you to interact with the bi-directional bezel, which still clicks making setting a second or third timezone a breeze. Flip the watch around, and you’re presented with an exceptionally detailed relief of a jet in flight. Powered by the ETA 2893-2, re-dubbed the Laco 93, the watch has a reliable and accurate engine at its core.

The dial, seen here in a concrete gray, features a modern interpretation of a pilot’s design with bold markers, a dotted-triangle at twelve, as well as large three and nine numerals. It’s super legible and easy to read at a glance. All markers on the dial and bezel feature intense lume, making it readable in the dark as well. The hour and minute hand have a traditional Roman sword shape and are rendered in heat-blued steel. The seconds hand is a thin lumed stick with a plane-shaped counterweight and the GMT hand features a skeletonized orange triangle tip. Throw in the date at six and you have a feature-rich dial.

On the wrist, the Frankfurt GMT is a force to be reckoned with. At 43 x 50 x 12.5mm, it’s a sizable watch, but not too big either. The sunken crowns keep it comfortable, and the lug-to-lug isn’t too long, preventing unappealing overhang. The dial is wide, and bold, with the split black/gray internal bezel adding some exciting contrast.

The Frankfurt GMT comes in a special aluminum box that includes two straps, one nylon, the other a technical water-resistant leather, a strap changing tool, and a key-chain. The Frankfurt GMT is $1,990 and available now, right here.
