We’re switching gears just a tad this Monday and bringing you an assortment of watches that have been hand-selected by our very own Windup Watch Shop team. Towards the end of last week, I put each of our team members on the spot by asking them a surprisingly difficult question: From our current selection of watches, what would be your top pick, and why does it stand out to you? Unsurprisingly, our team had some interesting and unique opinions, leading to an eclectic grouping of watches.

WOLBROOK OUTRIDER AUTOMATIC NO DATE

MFrom Ricardo: “A great, everyday watch, with straight lugs that make it a true strap monster. And that blue dial is just dark enough that it only shows its beauty at just the right angle.”

The Outrider Automatic No Date represents a thoughtful reimagining of the traditional field watch, blending a mid-century aesthetic with robust contemporary engineering. Its dial utilizes a distinctive flat-tip hour hand and a symmetrical, no-date layout that serves as a direct echo of vintage military equipment. Beyond the surface, the watch features Wolbrook’s proprietary HexapleX case architecture, a shock-resistant suspension system that utilizes 3D rubber absorbers to cradle the movement. Powering the piece is the Miyota 8315 automatic caliber, which has been expertly modified by Wolbrook’s French watchmakers to eliminate the date complication and regulated to a precise ±15 seconds per day, ensuring performance that exceeds standard factory specifications.

MFrom Nina: “These watches are gorgeous, and while they’re clearly inspired by Group C cars, this specific watch looks like the dash of a 1984 Honda CRX. Maybe because it's ana-digi, maybe it's the color of the hands and indices, but it’s gorgeous and thoughtfully designed.”

The Group C Turbo Sport marks Autodromo’s latest evolution of their 2023 digital debut, further refining the concept into a singular, instrument-inspired ana-digi package. Drawing heavily from the high-octane endurance racing era of the ‘80s and early ‘90s, the design language evokes the raw, electronic aesthetic of Group C prototype cockpits and tachometers. Featuring a sleek anodized aluminum case and a grid-textured dial, the watch centers on a period-correct analog display while a discreet LCD window at 6 o’clock manages its digital functions. It’s a thoughtfully designed piece that captures the soul of vintage motorsport without ever feeling like a mere caricature.

MFrom James: “The Bucintoro features wonderfully finished chamfered edges that make the watch feel exquisite on the wrist, while the double-domed crystal ensures legibility. Thanks to the internal NE88A movement, you get an ultra-reliable chronograph that you won’t have to worry about winding.”

The Venezianico Bucintoro 42 stands as a sophisticated chronograph that elegantly balances technical precision with a storied heritage, taking its name and spirit from the legendary ceremonial galley of the Venetian Republic. Much like the vessel that traditionally spearheaded the "Regata Storica," this timepiece serves as a tribute to the intersection of Venetian speed and cultural tradition. Ticking within its 42mm frame is the Seiko NE88A automatic movement, a high-caliber Japanese engine celebrated for its steadfast reliability. This sophisticated movement features a column wheel and vertical clutch architecture for seamless actuation, alongside a unique three-pointed hammer system, all while maintaining a healthy 45-hour power reserve.

MFrom Teo: “A gorgeous and versatile piece. You can make it your everyday sports watch or dress it up for nicer occasions. There's something to the wave-like dial that just gives it such a pleasing texture. The skeletonized hands are just the icing on the cake.”

The Venezianico Arsenale 40 makes quite an impression, offering a trio of strikingly textured dials that pay homage to the historic shipyard of Venice, all housed in modern 40mm steel. Available in a rich amethyst, a moody blue, or a clean grey, each dial showcases crisp Côtes de Genève stripes paired with applied markers and airy skeletonized hands. Under the hood, you’ll find the Miyota 9029, a high-grade, slim caliber hailing from Japan. This reliable movement boasts 24 jewels, a smooth 28,800 bph sweep, and a solid 42-hour power reserve, all while maintaining a sleek, true no-date layout.

ECHO/NEUTRA RIVANERA PICCOLO

MFrom Hedi: “What I love most about the Rivanera Piccolo is how it blends that vintage charm with something that feels totally modern — it's got real character without trying too hard. And honestly, the weight (or lack of it) is what gets me every time; titanium this light almost feels like cheating.”

The echo/neutra Rivanera Piccolo represents a sophisticated downsizing of the foundational Rivanera, distilling its striking, "brutalist" aesthetic into a refined mid-century form. While maintaining the distinct Art Deco roots and sharp rectangular profile of the original, the Piccolo is tailored for superior wearability, pairing the soul of a vintage treasure with the steadfast precision of a contemporary Swiss tool. Ticking inside is the Swiss-made Sellita SW1000 automatic, a movement chosen for its remarkably thin profile and robust 46-hour power reserve. This premium caliber even packs a functional date window at 6 o’clock, seamlessly tucked into the watch’s clean, architectural design.
