Why Serious Watch Collectors Keep Coming Back to the WU Shop for Dennison

When history is made, those who set the records are remembered forever. The people who supported those endeavors, well, they can sometimes be forgotten over the years. Let’s jump to around 1860, when Aaron Lufkin Dennison founded the Dennison Watch Case Company. Best described as a pioneer in case engineering, the Dennison Watch Case Company would operate continuously for almost 100 years and design/produce cases for some of the most recognizable brands: Rolex, Omega, IWC, Zenith, and many more. As records were being set in the 20th century and many iconic watches were cemented into history, Dennison made the cases. In 1967, Dennison Watch closed its doors, and its trademark lay dormant until its revival.

Since their revival in 2024, Dennison has become a very popular name in the watch industry, and for good reason. In order to begin their next chapter, the team behind Dennison started by combing through their archives. During this period of research, an original cushion case design was discovered and selected, and then presented to Emmanuel Gueit. Through his experience in design and modern manufacturing, Dennison has been able to revive midcentury designs with modern technology.

Dennison’s first collection, the ALD, is a distinguished revival of the classic Dennison cushion case, meticulously channeling the refined aesthetics and flair of the 1960s. This inaugural collection picks up where the brand's historic legacy left off, blending timeless retro flair with a clean, contemporary edge. At the heart of this collection, Dennison has crafted several sunray dial variations, as well as meticulously crafted stone dials. While the sunray dials come in a stainless case, the stone dial models are available in both stainless and gold PVD cases. Each model is powered by a Swiss Ronda Quartz Cal. 1062 movement, offering reliable and maintenance-free timekeeping. The dial is protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, and the 316L stainless steel case provides a robust 30-meter water resistance rating. With a universal 20mm lug width, the watch offers additional versatility, allowing for easy customization with various strap colors to suit any personal style or occasion. One model from this collection, the gold PVD-cased Tiger's Eye, would go on to win the 2025 GPHP Challenge award.

Following the success of the ALD, Dennison crafted the ALD Dual Time collection: same cushion case, double the time. The collection's standout feature is the dual-dial configuration, allowing for the simultaneous tracking of two time zones. These dials are crafted from exquisite natural materials, such as Tiger's Eye, Marble, Lapis, and Aventurine, ensuring that no two watches are exactly alike due to the unique characteristics of the stone. The case is available in either high-polished Stainless Steel or Gold PVD, both measuring a sleek 37mm wide, 35.6mm lug-to-lug, and an ultra-slim 6.1mm profile. Engineered for reliable, maintenance-free performance, each watch is powered by two independent Swiss Ronda Quartz Cal. 1032 movements. The dials are protected by scratch-resistant sapphire crystals, and the 316L cases provide 30-meter water resistance. Complemented by premium Epsom leather straps in various colors with bespoke hardware, the ALD Dual Time is a definitive choice for the international traveler who values distinct style and horological legacy.

Nearly two years into their revival, Dennison faced a difficult question: How do you follow two very successful releases? Well, it turns out the answer involves shrinking the design that’s become so popular. At roughly 2⁄3 the size of the ALD, the Mini takes Dennison's ALD case and brings it down in scale, putting the dial's material and finish front and center rather than the watch's overall footprint. The dial is a natural stone, so no two dials read quite the same — subtle shifts in tone show up as the light changes over the course of a day. Strap options include a single leather strap, a double leather strap, and a bark-textured mesh bracelet in steel, so the case and dial stay constant while the wrist presence changes with the strap choice. The case runs 24.2mm by 22.0mm and just 6.0mm thick, finished in stainless steel. A sapphire crystal covers the dial, and the crown is set with a single natural diamond (0.044 carat, FG color, VS2 clarity).Timekeeping runs on a Swiss Ronda quartz movement, caliber 1032 — a quartz caliber chosen for accuracy and a low-maintenance ownership experience.
