In an ironic use of colors, G-SHOCK is bringing “Caution Yellow” to some of its most durable models. With this new series of four new watches, Casio is showing off all of its technological and practical prowess. Purists can opt for the octagonal 2100 series or the classic 5600 case while the big and bold can pick between the 700 and the 100. There’s nothing to be careful about with these G-SHOCKS, as visibility and durability are at the forefront of their existence.

From smallest to largest: the 5600 is the iconic G-SHOCK format with a rectangular dial and case and all the bells and whistles under the hood. Yellow text and borders on the dial keep things simple, and the digital-only display is a callback to Casio watches of old. The 2100 is what newer G-SHOCK fanatics have been loving; its 45.4 mm x 48.5 mm case with octagonal bezel makes a statement without becoming unwieldy. The 100 steps into Big Watch territory and with good reason; it features dual displays on the bottom half of the dial and three registers up top. The burliest of the bunch is the 700 with its programmable front button design. With a dramatic rehaut from which imposing yellow hour markers protrude, this watch is toughness personified.

While all the watches in the series are powered by quartz movements, the 5600 and 2100 are solar-powered. The same two are also capable of connecting to smartphones via Bluetooth for time synchronization, phone finding, all through the app. All four references have additional functionality pertaining to calendars, alarms, world time, stopwatches, and more. Even without synchronization, Casio’s quartz movements are accurate within 15 seconds a month. As a whole, the simple black and yellow color scheme in this series references urban safety on watches that are, needless to say, quite safe themselves.

About G-Shock

G-SHOCK was born from a simple idea — a watch should not break when dropped. Back in 1983, the original square-shaped DW-5000C was created after Kikuo Ibe witnessed a child bouncing a rubber ball. It struck him that a watch floating within a rubber case would be impervious to shocks. After a bunch of testing and design with toughness in mind, the brand was born. Nearly 35 years and hundreds of models later, G-SHOCK is still best known for being some of the toughest, hard-wearing watches that money can buy.
