G-Shock has, for over four decades, staked its name on durable watches that are interesting not just because they are durable but because of how they achieve such ruggedness. This has led the brand down myriad paths around design and materials, and it is what leads them to release the new Utility Black Series. This lineup of three watches, based on the 2100, 700, and 5600-lines, consists of three iconic silhouettes but with a twist: all three come on Cordura (read: reclaimed post-industrial fabric) straps.

Casio has elected to pick three of its most famous models, the octagonal GA2100, imposing GA700, and iconic GA5600, as the foundation of this new collection. Each reference shares its distinct case measurements: the 2100-series is 45.4mm wide x 48.5mm long x 11.8mm thick; the 700-series 53.4mm x 57.5mm x 18.5mm; the 5600 42.8mm x 48.9mm x 13.4mm. The 2100’s case is forged of carbon and resin, while the other two have pure resin cases. The entire collection is blacked-out for an under-the-radar tactical aesthetic. The calling card for this Utility Black Series with Cordura is, of course, the strap. Though each of the watches feature their distinct lugs, they are paired with black Cordura straps. For the uninitiated, Cordura is an eco-friendly synthetic fiber-based fabric that is often used on backpacks, gear, and other durable applications. It is notoriously resistant to tears and punctures, which makes a G-Shock a natural use case.

All three G-Shock models feature advanced quartz movements that are packed with features that include, but are not limited to: full automatic calendar, stopwatch, alarm, LED light, and alarms. Battery life ranges from 3-5 years on a single cell, and accuracy is rated to +/- 15 seconds a month.

About G-Shock

G-SHOCK was born from a simple idea — a watch should not break when dropped. Back in 1983, the original square-shaped DW-5000C was created after Kikuo Ibe witnessed a child bouncing a rubber ball. It struck him that a watch floating within a rubber case would be impervious to shocks. After a bunch of testing and design with toughness in mind, the brand was born. Nearly 35 years and hundreds of models later, G-SHOCK is still best known for being some of the toughest, hard-wearing watches that money can buy.
