In the 1960s the US-military created MIL-W-3818B, a spec for rugged field watches to be issued to military personnel. Hamilton was one of a handful of brands that produced these watches, which were issued from the '60s to '80s. A now iconic design in the annals of American watches, when people think of a “field watch” this is it. Compact, tough, easy to read at a glance, it’s everything a military watch should be and nothing more.

In 2017, Hamilton reissued, so to speak, this classic field watch design with the Khaki Field Mechanical. Now sporting 38mm cases with sapphire crystals, Hamilton stuck to the typography, hand design and general layout of that original mil-spec to create a perfect balance of modern watch with vintage styling. A true go anywhere, do anything tool watch, the Khaki Field Mechanical is the kind of timepiece you put on and never take off.

Powering the Khaki Field Mechanical is the H-50 Swiss-made caliber*. This handwound movement features 17 jewels, hacking seconds, a frequency of 21,600 bph, and most notably, a power reserve of 80 hrs. The ideal movement for this watch, it combines the nostalgia of a hand-wound movement with an extended power reserve for modern convenience.

*The brown dial/steel case version is powered by the ETA 2801-2. This handwound movement features 17 jewels, hacking seconds, a frequency of 28,800 bph, and a power reserve of 42 hrs.
