Five Must-Have EDC Items
Words by Windup Watch Shop

It’s time for a good old fashioned EDC-themed Chronicle, and we’ve gathered what we consider some of the most essential – and practical – gear you can pick up. They say variety is the spice of life, and there’s plenty of flavor here, from knives to pouches to pens, and more. Without further ado, here are five must-have EDC items to help you stay prepared for anything life may throw at you.

As always, the Windup Watch Shop Team is available via consultation to answer any questions you have.

Nitecore EDC27 Flashlight

There are slim, powerful flashlights, and then there’s the EDC27. As the last word in ultra-compact high performance torches, the Nitecore EDC727 was designed to change the game. It is 5.34” long, 1.24 wide, and weighs only 4.37 ounces while dishing out a maximum brightness of 3,000 lumens thanks to twin SST40 LEDs. A strobe function is also available and handy for signaling and defense, and the flashlight itself is incredibly durable and rigid thanks to its construction. This is one you’ll want to keep packed, and it won’t take up much space doing the heavy lifting.

Craighill Kepler Pen

Not all EDC needs to be hardcore, and there is nothing lacking from the Craighill Kepler Pen. Attractive in design and operation, this pen was designed to work well and look good doing it. The Kepler takes Schmidt 635 refills and will certainly be a reliable and beautiful companion for years to come. Pick up one in stainless steel, brass, or classic black – but be ready to lend it out often; people love them.

The James Brand Folsom

There is no substitute for a good old quality pocket knife, and the James Brand knows a thing or two about building them. The Folsom is one of the thinnest products in the lineup, and it’s a no-nonsense knife for everyday use. We’re looking at 4 inches of G10 micarta for maximum grip (and rugged good looks), a 0.39” thick handle, and a straight VG-10 steel blade with a liner lock and an ambidextrous opening slot. At just over $100, it’s a strong contender for your EDC.

Nitecore MT21C Flashlight

Nitecore is back at it again and brings a particularly versatile flashlight to the table. The MT21C, at first glance, is a straightforward cylindrical torch with cool features like a magnetic base for sticking to metal surfaces and Advanced Temperature Regulation (ATR) tech. But its calling card is a 90-degree adjustable swivel that allows the MT21C to function both as a typical handheld flashlight and a work light. With modes from Ultralow light for reading or camping, to a maximum output of 1,000 lumens from its CREE XP-L HD V6 LEds, the MT21C is truly a master of all trades.

Pioneer Carry Commuter Zip Wallet

What good is all the gear in the world if you’ve got no place to put it? Pioneer Carry answers that question with the Commuter Zip Wallet, a storage option that is as cool as the gear it carries. Made of proprietary 3XD (3-ply nylon) material, this pouch is water and dirt resistant and will keep your belongings safe. It features quality YKK zippers (IYKYK) and an internal divider for better organization. For situations in which a simple wallet won’t cut it, the Commuter Zip Wallet is just the tool you need.
