Today, we’re happy to announce the arrival of UK-based MHD watches in the Windup Watch Shop. MHD stands for Matthew Humphries Design. Matthew himself started his career as a designer at a young age for Morgan Motor Company. His eye for design immediately impressed the higher-ups at Morgan and they put his first design into production -- the Morgan Aeromax. A few years later and with a few successful car designs under his belt, Matthew shifted his focus towards another passion -- watches. The design aesthetic of MHD Watches are clearly automobile inspired. You’ll notice the clean sweeping lines, gauge-style hands and dials, and complex chassis/barrel construction throughout the lineup. Let’s take a look at the models launching today:

SA2 Launch Edition (Black), Steel Dial, and Heritage White Dial
The SA2 is a unique design with the chassis of the case making up the fixed lugs. Constructed from four separate pieces, the 316L stainless steel chassis takes a whole new approach to lug design. The barrel of the case is framed out by the lug/midcase in a very interesting way. Measuring in at 41mm wide by 10mm tall and 47mm lug-to-lug, the SA2 will fit a wide range of wrists. A three piece design adds depth to the dial with a sloping chapter ring, machine turned base dial, and a lower sandwich level that’s seen through laser-cut slots. We’re happy to have the SA2 in shop with the natural steel dial, a bright “Heritage White”, and the “Launch Edition” with a rich black dial with yellow accents all at $640.
Type 2/Type 3
Taking the layered case design a bit further is MHD’s Type 2. The four piece chassis design frames the watch out in a similar way to the SA2, but the mid case and lugs are a bit more traditional in shape. It measures in at 40mm wide by 11.5mm tall, and 47mm lug-to-lug. Surrounding the dial is a screw down bezel that adds a mechanical look to the watch. The dial itself is layered, with laser cut slots showing the layer underneath. At 12, you’ll find a power reserve indicator with four bars, the lowest being in red to let you know that the watch could use a winding. Powering the watch is a Miyota 9130 automatic movement with 24 jewels, and a hacking seconds hand for precision time setting. A mix of brushed and polished surfaces on the case add visual appeal, while the textured barrel seen between the support struts of the mid case add depth to the profile view. The Type 2 features a white dial, while the Type 3 features a matte navy dial. Both are now available in the shop for $1,050.
