Upgrade Your Kit highlights indispensable everyday carry gadgets. When You Have Too Many Watches is all about accessories and peripherals for your watch collection. Last but not least, the Deal of the Week is a limited time bargain that you will not want to miss. The Windup Team is also available to schedule a consultation or demo with you to answer any questions you may have.

This week we open with a fan favorite, the Seiko Alpinist, now with a GMT twist. Next up, our value pick of the week is a new G-Show that really glows. Upgrade your kit with the Farley from Giant Mouse, one of the stylish knives around. Finally, inexpensive Seiko alarm clocks and Timex Q reissues wrap up this week’s Roundup. Let’s jump right in!

Treat Yourself: Seiko Prospex Alpinist GMT

The Prospex line has made a name for itself as the de facto sports line from Seiko by offering beefed up specifications for professional use. It’s only logical, then, that Seiko has chosen to reintroduce its classic Alpinist within this collection – and added GMT functionality to boot. The SPB377 and SPB379 retain the sub-40mm cases, cathedral handsets, and inner rotating compass bezels as their predecessors but have been refined and moved upmarket with supple matching leather straps and upgraded 6R54 movements. It is obvious Seiko has respected the Alpinist’s special place in history and collectors’ hearts by reimagining it as a higher-end and more capable watch than ever before.

Value-Packed Pick: G-Shock Hidden Glow

Casio’s latest salvo in the G-Shock lineup comes in the form of two new references, the GA2100-8A and DW6900HD-8. What may first appear a perfectly understated 2100 or 6900-series quickly takes an interesting turn when the lights go down. Indeed, these new watches from the Hidden Glow line feature seldom-seen full lume dials. For the uninitiated, this special treatment dramatically improves visibility at night as it acts as a virtual backlight (who needs Indiglo?). This playful yet useful angle on two of Casio’s most famous digital watch cases, the 2100 and 6900, is just the most recent example of the brand’s ability to riff on tried and true concepts to create something genuinely new and fun.

Upgrade Your Kit: The Giant Mouse Farley

Think Scandinavian design and you may first conjure ideas of minimalist furniture and refreshingly open concepts at home. But The Farley, from Giant Mouse, just may be the Tulip Chair of EDC knives. Hear us out: it’s a sleek, slipjoint style knife with a vintage-look satin polished blade and a beautiful Dusk Blue handle. Effortless to use and elegant to look at, these knives are a surefire upgrade for your EDC carry.

When You Have Too Many Watches: Seiko Mai Alarm Clock

One of the charms of the wonderfully anachronistic physical alarm clock is that it has not lost any use in today’s world. Save yourself from hearing that dreaded iOS or Android alarm and invest in a Seiko Mai Alarm Clock. Available in a variety of colors and styles, these clocks add form to function and make great accessories or accent pieces on a desk or shelf at home.

Deal of the Week: Timex Q Reissue 36mm

To say that Timex has been hitting it out of the park is an understatement. The revival of the Timex Q case from the 1970s has led to myriad special editions and versions, virtually all of which have been successes. This is in large part due to the watch’s pleasant unisex size. At 36mm by 42.4mm, this Malibu Yellow Gold Timex Q is a sub-$100 watch that looks cool on any wrist and doesn’t break the bank. It’s a shoo-in for our Deal of the Week.
