As a brand that is equally likely to be spotted on the wrists of everyone from watch collectors and streetwear enthusiasts to extreme sports athletes and military personnel, G-SHOCK offers a number of truly iconic case designs. However, easily one of the most popular new silhouettes to join the lineup in recent years has been the 2100 series with its ultra-thin octagonal case and hybrid analog/digital display. Although the design itself is actually a combination of two famous G-SHOCK watches from the brand’s archives, the model quickly picked up its now-famous “Casioak” nickname among enthusiast circles due to its octagon-shaped bezel and pair of centrally-mounted hands for displaying the time.
When the G-SHOCK 2100 series first debuted in 2019, it made its inaugural appearance with a standard battery-powered module wrapped up inside a lightweight carbon and resin case. The original model was an instant hit among collectors, but the watch that many people were truly waiting for was a full-metal version that offered the same case shape but with a more refined overall aesthetic. Well, the wait is finally over, and G-SHOCK’s fan-favorite octagonal watch has been reimagined in full-metal and with an advanced solar-powered module as the GMB2100 series — and now all three different colorways are available directly from the Windup Watch Shop.
One of the most appealing features about the original 2100 series was how thin it was compared to other G-SHOCK models. The new full-metal GMB2100 range embraces a similarly thin profile with stainless steel cases that measure 44.4mm wide by 49.8mm lug-to-lug and just 12.8 mm-thick, which makes them the thinnest full-metal G-SHOCK watches that have ever been created. The three-dimensional stainless steel bezels undergo a three-step finishing process to create their contrasting brushed and polished surfaces, while the stainless steel middle cases feature screw-in casebacks to help provide them with the G-SHOCK collection’s adventure-proof 200 meters of water resistance.
At the present time, the full-metal G-SHOCK GMB2100 series is available with a natural silver finish as the GMB2100D-1A, with black ion plating as the GMB2100BD-1A, or with a rose gold ion plated finish as the GMB2100GD-5A, and all three different versions feature solid-link stainless steel bracelets that are finished to match the rest of their respective cases. Additionally, all three of the new full-metal G-SHOCK GMB2100 watches are powered by the advanced 5691 module, which offers a hybrid analog/digital display with a stopwatch, alarm, countdown timer, world time feature, automatic calendar, and LED backlight, in addition to Tough Solar charging and Bluetooth connectivity for easy setup and automatic time synchronization via the Casio G-SHOCK smartphone app.
G-SHOCK GMB2100D-1A - Silver
Featuring a natural silver finish on the entirety of its stainless steel bezel and solid-link bracelet, the G-SHOCK GMB2100D-1A offers an unmistakably bright and metallic appearance that showcases the model’s signature full-metal construction. Contrasting against the silver color of its stainless steel external surfaces is a monochromatic black dial with an inverted LCD screen, along with hands and hour markers that are finished with a dark gray vapor deposition treatment for a subdued and understated overall aesthetic. While the internal module comes equipped with an electronic backlight, the hands and the tips of the hour markers receive an application of dark gray colored Neobrite for a luminous display that improves low-light visibility.
G-SHOCK GMB2100BD-1A - Black
The G-SHOCK GMB2100BD-1A features the same black dial as its sibling fitted with a silver finished bezel and bracelet, and it even includes the same inverted LCD screen paired with the same dark gray finished hands, hour markers, and dial accents. However, the GMB2100BD-1A fully leans into a stealthy monochromatic color profile, and matching the dark tones of its dial and hands is black ion plating on both its three-dimensional stainless steel bezel and matching solid-link bracelet. Just like the silver finished model, the all-black version includes dark gray colored Neobrite on its hands and hour markers to create a luminous display that supplements the internal module’s own built-in LED backlight.
G-SHOCK GMB2100GD-5A - Rose Gold
Just like its two full-metal siblings, the G-SHOCK GMB2100GD-5A features a black dial with an inverted LCD screen. However, unlike the other two models in the lineup that offer a more restrained overall aesthetic, the GMB2100GD-5A features a rose gold colored ion plating throughout the entirety of its stainless steel bezel and bracelet. Additionally, to match the color of its exterior, the hands, hour markers, and various dial accents all receive a rose gold vapor deposition finish that takes the place of the black and dark gray accents found on the other two models. Similarly, the luminous Neobrite material that is applied to the hands appears in a warm copper color to match the rest of their rose gold finish.
