Just about a month ago, Hamilton Watches announced the latest in their lineup of faithful military reissues with the Khaki Pilot Pioneer Mechanical, and today we’re excited to say they are available in the Windup Watch Shop. A logical follow up to the Khaki Field Mechanical or “Hamilton Hack,” the Pilot Pioneer is a near 1-for-1 recreation of the W10 watches that Hamilton was contracted to make for the British Royal Airforce in the 1970’s.

Measuring 33mm from 12 to 6 x 36mm from 3 to 9 x 42mm lug-to-lug, the barrel case of the Pilot Pioneer is small, robust, nimble, and very true to the original. Throw in the tall-box mineral crystal and 100m water resistance, and you have a great everyday, nostalgia-fueled timepiece. Thanks to the chunky nature of barrel-case design, the small dimensions still wear very well.

For the dial, Hamilton made sure there were no surprises, instead focusing on finish and accuracy. The dial surface is lightly textured for a matte effect that also adds a slight sense of age. The primary index of white markers and a railroad track is overlaid with parchment lume at the hours, giving a painted on effect. Sticking with the theme, the Hamilton logo at 12 is also the same as it was in the 70’s.

Powering the Pilot Pioneer is Hamilton’s hand-wound H-50 caliber. This Swiss-made caliber is a modification of the venerable ETA 2801 with an increased power reserve of 80-hours. Apart from the power reserve the H-50 features 17 jewels, hacking seconds, and a frequency of 21,600 bph. Since the H-50 is manually wound, the watch maintains an authentic feel, and a svelte profile of 10mm.

The Khaki Pilot Pioneer Mechanical is available now on a gray nylon mil-strap for $845 or a tan leather mil-strap for $895 and ships immediately. This is a must have for any fans of vintage military watches, and vintage Hamiltons.
