2020 is here, and we’re kicking it off with a big announcement - well, not “big” but “large” as we’re excited to say the 48mm Hamilton Chrono-Matic 50 Auto Chrono Limited Edition is now available at Windup Watch Shop.

Hamilton Chrono-Matic 50 Auto Chrono Limited Edition

Based on one of the most unique Hamilton watches ever created, the Chrono-Matic GMT Countdown / Chronomatic E from 1972, the Chrono-Matic 50 was released to celebrate that design as well as the 50th anniversary of the Caliber 11, one of the three first automatic chronograph movements ever released. Known for its massive case and plethora of pushers and crowns, it’s the chronograph taken to the extreme.

For the Chrono-Matic 50, Hamilton didn’t try to tame this innovative 70’s design, rather they leaned into it, going for the full 48mm beast with three pushers and two crowns, spanning both sides of the case. The massive “helmet” case has a rugged, yet sculptural design that when combined with the black, white and red dial, looks like a piece of equipment that was ripped out of an instrument panel. In other words, this watch is not for the faint of heart.

While based on the 1972 version, the new Chrono-Matic 50 has some modern changes and updates as well. Instead of the world time and 24-hour tracks, there is a tachymeter scale and an internal rotating count-down bezel, making this version much more racing themed. Inside you’ll then find the H-31 automatic chronograph caliber. Based on the Valjoux 7753, the H-31 is two register chrono with 27-jewels, hacking, hand-winding, pusher-set date, a frequency of 28,800 bph, and a power reserve of 60-hours.

The Hamilton Chrono-Matic 50 Auto Chrono Limited Edition is a truly unique watch that is utterly Hamilton, and will make any wrist standout from the crowd. The Chrono-Matic 50 is available now for $2,545 and limited to 1,972 pieces worldwide.
