To make a long story short, when Aaron Draplin made the very first Field Notes by hand as a holiday gift for friends, they looked pretty much like these notebooks.
The original 48-page notebooks are available as a mixed 3-pack that includes one of each paper type – graph, ruled, and plain paper. Each Original Kraft memo book measures 3-1/2" wide by 5-1/2" tall and is bound by a rugged three-staple saddle-stitch process.
- Notebook Dimensions: 3-1/2" × 5-1/2" (89mm x 140mm)
- Paper Type: Graph Grid: 3/16" × 3/16" (4.7mm × 4.7mm). Ruled lines: 1/4" (6.4mm). Crisp plain paper. 48 Pages.
- Printed and manufactured in the U.S.A.
Field Notes is a joint venture by the Draplin Design Company of Portland, Ore. and Coudal Partners in Chicago, Ill. The company was founded in 2007 and owes their existence to a tradition of promotional memo books distributed to American farmers over the last hundred years by seed, tractor, and other agricultural companies. In creating their product, they use only papers sourced and manufactured in the U.S.A. (mostly from the Great Lakes region) and print locally in the Chicago area. In the years since their founding, they have become the standard when it comes to everyday carry writing instruments.
