The Salmon Antarctic 35mm ships at the end of November 2024

Prepare to be captivated by the Antarctic 35mm, a timepiece that exudes elegance and pays homage to the timeless allure of the 1950s. Bringing the watch down to 35mm, Nivada looks to provide a classically sized option for today's collector.

It starts off with the case. Angled edges and multiple facets using a mixture of finishes creates a dynamic watch in hand. Add to that a beautifully domed sapphire glass sitting on an already slim 7.1mm case. All together, this leads to a truly dynamic watch in hand and on the wrist.

From there, we zoom into the salmon dial. Luminescent arcs replace traditional dots on the hour markers, elevating the visual appeal of the watch. The 'Nivada Grenchen' signature proudly sits below the 12, 'Antarctic' above the 6, and a discreet 'Swiss' can be found along the minute track, showcasing the watch's Swiss heritage. The applied steel indexes, along with Art Deco-style numerals at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock, also create a classic aesthetic.

The watches are offered on a brown leather racing strap with brown stitching, which compliments the salmon dial.

The Antarctic 35mm transports you to a bygone era, evoking a sense of nostalgia and sophistication. It is a testament to the lasting appeal of classic design and craftsmanship. Experience the beauty and heritage of the Antarctic 35mm.

About Nivada Grenchen

Nivada Grenchen was founded in Grenchen, Switzerland, in 1926 by Jacob Schneider. The firm wasted no time innovating and was one of the first companies to manufacture automatic watches at scale. Known for its accessible and reliable watches, Nivada Grenchen first released the Aquamatic and Sea Blade watches for seafarers. In 1950, the Antarctic, which was based on the Aquamatic, became the brand’s first hit model. It was famously issued to the US Navy during Operation Deep Freeze to the South Pole in 1955 and 1956.

Taking things to the next level in 1961, Nivada Grenchen introduced the Chronomaster, a watch designed to do it all: chronograph, aviation watch, and dive watch. The Chronomaster would find great success throughout the following decade and was made in myriad configurations through the 1970s. The Depthmaster, another cult classic, followed in 1965. Rated to an astounding 1000m, it was a marvel of its time and was considered the world’s most waterproof watch.

The company changed hands in the 1980s and again in the 2000s as the quartz crisis disrupted the Swiss watchmaking industry. In 2018, Guillame Laidet and Remi Chabrat relaunched Nivada Grenchen in its home of Switzerland with three of its most iconic models – the Antarctic, Chronomaster, and Depthmaster. With faithful reissues, Nivada Grenchen has captured the hearts of collectors as it continues to build its current lineup.
