The Oris Big Crown Pointer Date Roberto Clemente LE - Now Available at the Windup Watch Shop
Words by Windup Watch Shop

When Oris makes a watch that commemorates a person or place, they always do so with the utmost tact and restraint. No overt call-outs or references, or anything too obvious dial-side. This allows these watches to be successful on multiple levels. First, as simply attractive watches that anyone can appreciate, and second, on a deeper level for those who want. Today, we’re excited to say that we’re adding their most recent commemorative watch to the Windup Watch Shop, the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date Roberto Clemente LE.

This special limited edition version of the Big Crown Pointer Date celebrates the life and career of baseball legend and Hall of Famer, Roberto Clemente, as well as the work by his namesake foundation. Though his life ended tragically at the age of 38, he amassed many awards and accolades in his 18 years as a baseball player, and was well known for his humanitarian efforts. In true Oris style, this watch commemorates Roberto Clemente in the most tasteful and subtle ways possible.

The dial is rendered in a very handsome palette of white, green, black and gold, speaking to the team colors of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The only overt nod to Roberto Clemente is still a bit of an easter egg. On the date index, Roberto Clemente’s jersey number, “21”, is highlighted in gold, rather than black. The caseback takes a more direct approach with a beautiful portrait of the man machined into the steel. Each watch is numbered out of 3000, the number of hits from his career.

The limited edition watch comes in a special commemorative box, and includes two straps - one leather, the other fabric - and a strap changing tool. Head here to pick one up now
