Oris is no stranger to ecological preservation pursuits, and the latest Aquis Date special edition in collaboration with Bracenet is just the latest effort in its history. Apart from its environmental endeavors, Oris continues to make a name for itself with a variety of sport and dress watches that are long-considered excellent value. The Aquis Date is the modern cutting edge of Oris’ dive watch category and is often the template for interesting collaborations and special editions. In this case it is the starting point for a watch that repurposes lost fishing nets into one-of-a-kind dials.

The Oris x Bracenet Aquis Date comes in two configurations, both in stainless steel: the 43.5mm version has a 50mm lug to lug width and a 24 strap/lug width, while the smaller 36.5mm variant is 42.5mm lug to lug and 16mm for straps. Both models are 12mm thick, feature diving bezels, and are water resistant to 300 meters. The star of the show is undoubtedly the dial, which is made of recycled “ghost” and end-of-life nets. The raw material is melted with blue, green, and white offcuts, resulting in unique composites that are sized and sanded down to 0.3mm for assembly. Due to the random nature of this process, no two dials are the same.

The Aquis Date x Bracenet watches are powered by the automatic Oris 733, which is based on the Sellita SW 200-1. The 26-jewel movement beats at 4 Hz (28,800 bph) and provides 38 hours of power reserve. A quickset date is tucked at 6 o-clock for symmetry.

The rich history of Oris dates back to 1904, when Paul Cattin and Georges Christian founded the brand in Hölstein, Switzerland, where it is still based. Over the past century, Oris has reached many great achievements, including being one of the 10 largest watch brands in the world in the 1960’s. Since the 1980’s, Oris has pursued a catalog of unique mechanical watches that has channeled their independent spirit. From their patented Worldtimer to their depth gauge diver to their mechanical altimeter pilot’s watch, Oris has continued to innovate in a way few other brands can match. An achievement that is highlighted by the brand’s commitment to fare, and accessible prices.
