In the mid-twentieth century, the modern dive watch was still in its infancy. A new genre that posed many engineering challenges, brands were racing to the bottom, so to speak, to create cases that could withstand deeper waters and greater pressure. While many of the most famous sports watches came out of this period by marquee brands, slightly lesser-known, but greatly significant watches also emerged. The Ollech & Wajs Caribbean 1000 was one such watch and the C-1000 is a modern tribute to it.

One of the most remarkable things about the 1964 Caribbean was that it was relatively compact considering its impressive depth rating. The C-1000 stays true to this aspect measuring 39.56mm x 49.5mm x 15.8mm, which includes a 5.6mm thick, domed sapphire crystal. The dial and bezel, however, have been updated to the brand’s current design language, which mixes vintage and modern sensibilities for boldness and legibility, but still with style. Built like a rock, the C-1000 is a great option for an all-around tool watch and diver.

Powering the Ollech & Wajs C-1000 is an ETA 2824-2 Swiss-made automatic caliber. A tool watch standard, it features 25-jewels, a power reserve of 38 hours, hacking seconds, and a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour. Ollech & Wajs have modified the movement with an engraved mainplate and a customized rotor.

The C-1000 is available on a nylon strap or with an additional OW S-Type Mark II steel bracelet.
