Earlier this year, Citizen expanded its Promaster collection to include a pair of GMT watches that might just be one of the best value pieces of the year. Available in two distinct styles, you’ll have a choice of a rich wine-like red dial on a steel bracelet or a bold blue dial on a greyish blue nylon strap. Each of the dials features highly legible numeral indices, a healthy dose of lume, an off-color GMT hand, and a texture that Citizen describes as “inspired by rocky terrain”. Intended to be a compact, highly wearable, and rugged adventure watch, the new GMTs come in at 39.5mm wide, 13.4mm thick, and 43.7mm lug-to-lug. While this watch might be called the Promaster LAND GMT, Citizen built in 200 meters of water resistance for those adventures that start dry but end in the water.

Inside is Citizen’s Eco-Drive caliber B877, a traveler-style GMT movement, which is powered by any light source, meaning there’s no battery to worry about when you’re out on the trail. On a full charge, Citizen states the watch can run for up to 9 months without any light in case you need to store the watch for an extended period of time. The Traveler or ”true” GMT movement features a jumping local hour hand, which allows you to quickly adjust the watch to local time. When you find yourself needing to read your home timezone with the 24-hour hand, the fixed stainless steel bezel wrapped around the domed sapphire crystal allows you to quickly calculate that time in 24-hour time.

Starting at $525 USD on a strap and $595 USD on a bracelet, there’s a lot of value packed into this watch, and they feel like the classic Citizen watches we’ve come to know and love. Both models are currently available online through the Windup Watch Shop, or feel free to drop into our Brooklyn showroom to see them in person!
