Now in the Shop: Citizen’s “Unite with Blue” Sustainable Dive Watch
Words by Windup Watch Shop

If you’ve ever spent a considerable time around the ocean, there’s a really good chance that you’ve noticed just how much trash lies in the water and on the shore. Even in the most pristine of destinations, a plastic bag or bottle always manages to make its way there. When a watch brand makes an effort to remove plastics from their supply chain, it’s worth taking notice. Inspired by the varying shades of blue and green that make up our oceans and seas, this Promaster Dive watch from Citizen features several recycled materials to make up its stunning dial and bezel. Let’s take a closer look.

The form factor is the familiar Promaster Dive that we all know and love. A bold 44mm stainless steel case with a 20mm lug width houses an Eco-Drive movement inside. Powered by any light source and never requiring a battery change, this movement will be reliable and at the ready for decades to come. On the case, a chunky screw-down crown helps the watch maintain its 200M of water resistance. Up top, the spherical mineral crystal protects the dial from impacts. What makes this watch really shine is the dial treatment. Crafted from 100% recycled polycarbonate, it features a gradient from dark blue to a greenish-teal towards the center. The bezel insert is a two-tone green and blue, perfectly pairing with the dial. To keep the watch on your wrist, Citizen has made a biomass-based polyurethane strap from plant-based materials, keeping traditional plastics out of the equation.

Between the recycled dial material, plant-based strap, and battery-free Eco-Drive movement, this new watch from Citizen’s focus on sustainability and recycling is an excellent reminder that we can all do a little better to keep our oceans clean. This bold, handsome, and dive-ready watch will make an excellent addition to your collection, and it’s available now in the Windup Watch Shop.
