One of the most satisfying feelings as a watch enthusiast is setting your watch to a new time zone during travel. What could be better than that? Having a dedicated hand to track another timezone, of course. Watches with GMT functionality are both fun and useful, especially during travel. Of course you can also use the feature to track the other team you work with on the opposite coast, but let’s keep it fun. Today in the shop, we’re happy to bring three new Seiko GMT watches into the mix. The SSK011 and SSK009 are both in the Presage family of watches, while the SFK003 is a fully dive-capable Prospex. Let’s take a closer look.
Seiko Presage SSK011 and SSK009
Vintage inspired and sporty in appearance are these two Seiko Presage GMT timepieces. They both feature a 40.8mm case diameter, crafted from stainless steel with a hairline brushed finish. A box-shaped crystal protects the dial underneath, which is adorned with polished applied indices, a date display window, and hand set, featuring LumiBrite luminous paint and of course, the 4th GMT hand. Around the dial, you’ll find a 24-hour bezel that’s rendered in black with white text. Inside the watch, an automatic winding 4R34 movement beats away at 21,600 vibrations per hour with manual winding capability should you find the watch out of power. When fully wound, the SSKs will run for 41 hours. These two are “caller” style GMTs, so the main hour hand can stay stationary and the GMT hand can be jumped via the crown. The SSK009 features a beautiful teal-blue dial and ships on a bracelet, while the SSK011 is dressed up in a warm silver dial and paired with a perforated leather strap.
Prospex SFK003
If you’re looking for a capable and reliable dive watch with GMT functionality, then look no further than Seiko’s new SFK003. Featuring a bold 45mm stainless steel case that’s finished with brushed and polished surfaces, the SFK003 makes quite the impression. The first thing you’ll notice is the textured bright green dial with its vibrant orange GMT hand. The sharp handset and applied indices are both treated with Seiko’s own LumiBrite luminous paint that will glow long after the sun’s gone down. Inside the watch is a reliable 5K65 solar GMT movement that’s accurate to +/- 15 seconds per month and charges from exposure to light, making it a great daily wearer. A durable and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal is treated with an anti-reflective coating on the inside to maintain optimal legibility. The SFK003 ships on a stainless steel bracelet with a folding security clasp and dive extension.
There’s no shortage of watches you can use to track a different time zone, and these three new timepieces from Seiko each make a compelling option.
