Words by WIndup Watch Shop

Digital watches often get overlooked by watch enthusiasts, as we tend to want mechanical and automatic watches that have a “heart”. But digital watches have become an essential part of modern life, offering convenience, accuracy, durability, and functionality at an affordable price. It’s tough to argue with that. Autodromo knows how to win over even the most hardcore watch enthusiast with their unique automotive inspired designs and they’ve done it again with the newest Group C, now available in the Windup Watch Shop

Many racing fans look back on the Group C era as a golden age of motorsport. The Group C Era of endurance racing, which lasted from 1982 to 1993, was a set of regulations created by the FIA to govern prototype sports cars that competed in endurance races such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the World Sportscar Championship, and the IMSA GT Championship. During this period, manufacturers such as Porsche, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, and Toyota competed with each other to produce the fastest and most technologically advanced sports cars. One of the defining features of Group C cars was their use of advanced aerodynamics. Many of the cars featured ground effects technology, which used the shape of the car's underbody to generate downforce, allowing the cars to corner at high speeds. And that is what inspired the latest Group C from Autodromo.

The clean, slab-sided shape of the case echoes the rational aerodynamic forms of cars such as the Porsche 962C and the Sauber C9. The brightly colored pushers reference the fluorescent-hued mirrors of Group C cars that allowed them to be differentiated at a distance during races such as the Le Mans 24 Hours.

A chamfered sapphire crystal reveals a simple black and white LCD module with blue EL backlight that will take you back to the simplicity of a time when this basic tool was the proto-"smart watch." The Group C watch can time laps (including split times), display the time and date with micro precision, and has an alarm function. A reversible custom molded FKM rubber strap holds it to your wrist, and 20mm lugs mean you can swap in any of our leather straps for fun.

This watch is available today in the Windup Watch Shop for $475 while supplies last! Visit our Windup Watch Shop to learn more about the Group C and more from Autodromo.
