For Pilot watch enthusiasts, Laco watches really needs no introduction. Founded in 1925, they were one of the original manufacturers of German Flieger watches. Still based in Pforzheim, Germany, Laco is known for their exacting quality, exceptional finishing, and attention to design detail.
The Altenburg and Bielefeld 39, named after two towns in Germany, are built for night missions. Taking the classic Laco Flieger aesthetic and adding a durable PVD-coating to its 39mm stainless steel case, the German manufacturer has added a tactical touch to its aeronautical icon. The two watches — representing both Type A (Altenburg) and Type B (Bielefeld) dial configurations — are matched to a riveted black leather strap, further leaning into the brand’s aviation heritage.
Powering these high-flying twins is the Laco 2S, a Miyota 82S0-derived caliber. A Japanese-made automatic movement, it features 21 jewels, hacking, hand winding, a frequency of 21,600 beats per hour, and a power reserve of at least 42 hours.

In the 1940's, only a handful of companies were selected to manufacture pilots watches for the German Airforce. Laco was one of these companies, and today they bring that heritage to their watches. You'll notice that their "original" series all feature "FL23883" engraved into the case, on the side opposite from the crown. This number indicates the watch was made to military specification for pilots.
