Between the Astronaut and Lunar Pilot models, Bulova has a serious history with watches worn in space. One of the most common bits of feedback was the size of the Lunar Pilot, and they’ve taken that to heart. They’ve shrunk the case down to the original proportions of the actual watches worn in space – bumping from 45mm down to the historically accurate 43.5mm.
The Lunar Pilot features a stainless steel case paired with a matching stainless steel multi-link bracelet. You’ll immediately notice the iconic rectangular chronograph pushers on the right side of the case that activate the movement inside. The dial features three sub dials, a date display, and a tachymeter scale displayed under the sapphire crystal. It’s available in the Windup shop in two handsome dial configurations – a two-tone white base dial with blue subdials, and the classic black on black that represents the original chronograph timepiece.
Inside, the watch is powered by Bulova’s proprietary NP20 High Precision Quartz movement that’s accurate down to 1/20th of a second. During critical missions, accuracy and reliability were of the utmost importance, making the Lunar Pilot an ideal candidate for the task at hand. The watch tracks 1/10th of a second increments at 3, shows the running seconds at 6, and a 60 minute totalizer at 9.
Priced at $895, the Lunar Pilot is available with the white or black base dial, includes a multi-link bracelet, and an additional nato-style strap crafted from leather. These new true-to-form Lunar Pilots are available now at the Windup Watch Shop.
