While Junghans are best known today for their iconic “Max Bill” series of dress watches, their Meister line (“Master” auf Deutsch) is vastly underappreciated. Dating back to the 1930s, it was originally introduced to showcase their technical prowess — after all, by 1956 Junghans was the world’s third largest producer of chronometer-grade watches — the Meister line now celebrates the German manufacturer’s watchmaking heritage and design prowess.

The Worldtimer introduces a jetset sophistication to the Meister range. This complication allows the wearer to view the time in the world’s 24 major time zones. While world timers are often noted for their complication — both mechanically and on their dials — Junghans avoids this by implementing the 24-hour scale as a minimal gray ring, the corresponding cities alternating in location and color. The Meister Worldtimer features a svelte 10.5mm thick 40.4mm case, effortlessly rendering the watch comfortable no matter the occasion. The deep blue dial offers a refined Teutonic take on the classic world timer format.

Powering the Junghans Meister Worldtimer is the Junghans J820.5, a modified Sellita SW330-1. This Swiss-made automatic movement features 25 jewels, hacking, hand winding, world-time complication, a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour, and a power reserve of up to 42 hours. The white dial is offered on a beads-of-rice style bracelet while the blue comes on a matching stitched blue leather strap.

About Junghans

Since 1861, the town of Schramberg, Germany, nestled sleepily in the Black Forest, has been home to one of the greatest names in German watchmaking: Junghans. For over a century and a half, the brand has produced a stunning array of watches and clocks for almost every conceivable application, from egg timers to cockpit clocks for Bf-109 fighter aircraft, but today their collection is comprised mostly of a few lines of clean, design-oriented timepieces.

Junghans’ style trends toward sleek minimalism, with a healthy dose of mid-century style to keep things unique and interesting. This shines through especially well in their Meister Pilot series, with a one of a kind scalloped rotating bezel based on the pilot’s chronographs Junghans supplied to the newly reforming German air force, in the 1950s. The real star of the show for Junghans, however, is the Max Bill series, named after the eponymous Bauhaus designer.
