For watch collectors and enthusiasts, Tissot is a brand that holds special meaning. Part of the Swatch group, they are a rare brand that offers a little of everything, always at a good price, and always Swiss-made. Vintage, modern, sport, digital, dress, quirky, classic - you name it, they’ve got it. They also span all types of movements, making it very easy to find a watch that suits your taste and budget. While a great way to get into Swiss-made watches, Tissot is a brand that you’ll find yourself going back to over the years. Today, we’re very excited to welcome Tissot to the Windup Watch Shop.
To launch Tissot in the shop, we’ve decided to focus on two lines of watches (though many more will come), the handsome and brand-new Heritage Gents 1938 Automatics, and the cult-favorite PRX. A recent addition to Tissot’s catalog, the Heritage Gents 1938 Automatics is a collection of three watches in two styles. Based on archival watches from the 1930s, all feature a reserved, but timeless design with a hint of Bauhaus discipline. 39mm steel cases with elegant finishing and display case-backs grant versatility and a business casual attitude. Importantly, all three feature chronometer-certified movements for exceptional accuracy.
First are the Tissot Heritage Gent Auto COSC 1938s, a duo of timeless everyday watches. Featuring sandblasted dials in salmon or black, both feature raised numerals in a gorgeous typeface for the hours, and railroad indexes along their edge for minutes and seconds. The salmon dial is accented with black, for great contrast, while the black dial is accented with matte gold for an aged appeal. Both feature leather straps and are powered by the ETA 2824-2 COSC.
Next up is the Tissot Heritage Small Second Auto COSC 1938. Based on the same platform as the automatics, this version has a multi-tonal dial and a small seconds sub-dial at six. Featuring an anthracite gray surface that is accented by a silver chapter ring and seconds sub-dial, it has a refined “inverse tuxedo” palette. Gold numerals and hands add even more character as a date at three adds some additional functionality. This model comes with both a steel mesh bracelet and a gray leather strap adding to its versatility. Beating inside is an ETA 2895-2 COSC with a gold-toned rotor visible through the display back.
Moving along, we have Tissot’s answer to the integrated sports watch trend of the last few years, the PRX line. Unlike many other attempts at this style, Tissot managed to pull it off both gracefully and affordably. Quintessentially ‘70s, the PRX features a barrel case with faceted sides and beautiful brushing, complemented by either an integrated bracelet that flows beautifully or a rubber strap for a sportier look. Simple, but handsome dials with applied batons and textured surfaces round out this contemporary take on a vintage style. We’ll have four versions at launch, the 35mm and 40mm automatics, and the same in quartz.
The PRX Powermatic 80 in 40mm is the quintessential PRX. Well-sized at 40mm x 39.5mm x 10.9mm, these 80-hour automatics are large enough to have the bravado of a ‘70s sports watch, while also looking sharp with a suit. Available in several classic colors, they have gridded metallic dials that have remarkable depth and texture. Priced at $725, they are truly hard to beat.
With that said, for those with smaller wrists or who prefer a smaller watch in general, the PRX Powermatic 80 35mm is the route to go. A 35mm square, it manages to be even more elegant, while not losing the personality of its larger sibling. Best of all, the 80-hour automatic movement remains, giving you all the features, with less bulk. Starting at $695, they are a remarkable value.
If you want all of the looks, but at an even better price, the PRX Quartz are the way to go. Hardly distinguishable from their mechanical counterparts, the Quartz models feature brushed metallic dials for a more subtle, but no less refined, style. Sized the same as the mechanical models, but a touch thinner, they wear even a little better. With that said, their most remarkable feature is their price tag, which starts at $395.
